The Built With Bitcoin Foundation (BWB) has unveiled a new Bitcoin Technology Center in the city of Ejisu, Ghana, as part of the legacy of the inaugural Africa Bitcoin Conference. The center will be run by and for the benefit of the local community in Ghana.
On December 8th, 2022, BWB founders Ray Youssef and Yusuf Nessary intend to showcase the campus. Several representatives of the global Bitcoin community will be present for the tour.
The Bitcoin Technology Center’s main objective is to provide the local community with knowledge and skills related to the financial and technology sectors. It also aims to foster community and a secure learning environment.
The Edwinase community, the Blockchain Foundation Africa, and the Bitcoin community all support the facility. There will be eight employees including administrators and lecturers.
Some of the various subjects that will be taught in the facility include:
- Financial literacy: understanding money
- Introduction to Bitcoin
- Entrepreneurship
- Introduction to computers
- Introduction to coding
The center plans to educate and train up to 400 people in its first year and the facility will be open to everyone. The website will host monthly meetups in addition to offering education and training.
BWB’s website explains that it is “a humanitarian organization devoted to creating equitable opportunity by providing clean water, access to quality education, sustainable farming, and humanitarian support—all powered by Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.”
Prior humanitarian projects completed by BWB include a South African education center in collaboration with Bitcoin Ekasi, a ferry for a school in El Salvador, and a well project in Nigeria that provided clean water access to more than 1,000 villagers.
Nessary shared that “the bedrock of any community is education — whether that be financial, health, agriculture and so on. Education is also a key to protecting vulnerable communities from bad actors and teaching people how Bitcoin can support them and their families through entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, knowledge, and social empowerment.”
