Relai, a European non-custodial Bitcoin wallet that offers broker services, has introduced Lightning functionality, which was announced at the Plan B conference in Lugano.

Initially, Lightning support will be available through an invite-only beta program and later expanded to the public by the end of Q4 2023. In early 2024, Relai plans to allow direct purchases into users' Lightning wallets through its broker service.

Relai will use the Breez Software Development Kit (SDK) for a seamless integration. Backend operations will be managed by Blockstream's Greenlight service, which handles node software in the cloud while ensuring user control over funds and channel updates.

Relai will continue to ensure self-custody for Lightning users by relying on the Breez SDK and Greenlight. Greenlight grants users access to multiple Lightning Service Providers (LSPs) for fee and network customization.

Importantly, Relai will not have insight into users' Lightning Network activity beyond direct purchases.

Adem Bilican, Co-Founder and CTO of Relai, emphasizes the collaboration's significance for Bitcoin adoption in Europe.

Our collaboration with Breez fortifies our position at the forefront of the Bitcoin revolution in Europe. By integrating the Bitcoin Lightning Wallet, we are not only enhancing the user experience but also propelling Bitcoin's adoption as a daily transactional currency.

Roy Sheinfeld, Breez's Co-Founder and CEO, shares a vision for securing accessibility to Bitcoin and Lightning for all users.

Working with a forward-thinking partner like Relai has been a delightful journey. We are united by the vision of making Bitcoin and Lightning easily and securely accessible to as many people as possible.

This partnership will provide European Bitcoin users with a comprehensive solution, offering on-chain self-custody, convenient on and off ramps, and integrated Lightning payment support—all within a single application while maintaining the core principles of self-custody.
