Eun Young Choi is a seasoned prosecutor serving nearly a decade in multiple departments, primarily as a Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General. During the announcement Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite Jr. of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division said that the NCET will focus on crime involving cryptocurrencies and related products. Choi's previous experience in cyber and cryptocurrency related issues gives the DoJ confidence in her ability to lead this department. 

In the same announcement, the US DoJ confirmed that the FBI launched its Virtual Asset Exploitation Unit, which is a specialized team of cryptocurrency experts “dedicated to providing analysis, support, and training across the FBI, as well as innovating its cryptocurrency tools to stay ahead of future threats.” 

The DoJ stated that the NCET's focus will be to set strategic priorities related to digital asset technologies, identify areas to investigate, and coordinate with domestic and international law enforcement, regulatory agencies and private industries to combat criminal use of digital assets.
