JAN3 has announced the release of Echos, a mobile voice-to-text transcription application that operates entirely on a user’s device without requiring an internet connection.

The launch coincides with JAN3’s formal introduction of A1 Lab as its new artificial intelligence division.

Developed from internal tools, A1 Lab focuses on building open-source, offline-first AI products designed to give users greater control over their data.

Echos is the division’s first public product. The app processes audio locally using embedded AI models, eliminating the need to upload recordings to remote servers.

JAN3 stated that the application can function in Airplane Mode, with all transcription handled directly on-device.

The company described cloud-based transcription services as potentially intrusive, noting that many platforms rely on external servers for processing.

Echos is positioned as a privacy-focused alternative, with audio streams never leaving the device.

Version 0.1.0 of the app is free and open-source, with transcriptions encrypted and stored locally on the device.

It supports more than 65 languages and includes session and folder organization, text editing, integrated sharing tools, and an incognito mode for temporary transcriptions without saving data.

The app does not require user accounts or subscriptions, and its open-source codebase is intended to promote transparency.

Echos is available for Android and iOS devices, with additional features planned in future updates.
