In April of this year, Bitcoin and cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex and the company of Tether raised 36 Bitcoin (roughly $1.5 million) to support families who were affected by gang violence occurring in El Salvador.
A tweet from Christian Guevara on June 9th, 2022 showed Max Keiser, Stacy Herbert, and representatives from Bitfinex distributing portions of these funds to qualifying families and small businesses in Ilopango. Next week, more funds will be given to residents in Soyapango. Christian Guevara is a politician and representative for El Salvador.
Both Bitfinex and Tether donated 25 BTC to the cause and raised the remaining amount by accepting donations via a Bitcoin address. Interested parties were able to send funds and watch the progress of these donations via Twitter. CTO of Tether and Bitfinex, Paolo Ardoino, would post regular updates on their progress via Twitter.
Max Keiser and Stacy Herbert are American newscasters and are known for presenting and discussing various Bitcoin, financial, and economic topics for their shows.
