AQUA Wallet launched an open beta for Indra, custom-built infrastructure connecting Bitcoin's Lightning Network and the Liquid Network, according to a September 15th X post.

Named after the Vedic god of lightning and rain, Indra is designed to move Bitcoin seamlessly between the two networks within the AQUA app, the company reported.

JAN3 CEO Samson Mow said the team built Indra in-house over several weeks to replace Boltz, the outside provider that previously handled AQUA's Liquid-to-Lightning swaps.

Boltz, AQUA's Liquid-to-Lightning swap provider, had been offline since August 12th, when it announced it was winding down.

A Liquid Network exploit on September 6th then knocked out AQUA's SideSwap-based swap and peg-out functionality as well, the company said. The exploit hit one day before JAN3 had originally planned to launch Indra.

The Liquid Network's own incident report attributed the exploit to a vulnerability in the Elements software's handling of range proof verification caching, which let an attacker mint roughly 4,000 unbacked L-BTC and peg it out through SideSwap's authorization key.

Blockstream recovered 3,400 Bitcoin of the total the following day, leaving about 598.5 Bitcoin still outstanding as of the report.

Indra brings AQUA closer to full functionality, and the original user experience is reported to return once Liquid's peg operations are fully restored.

The beta is not a substitute for Liquid Network peg-outs. It is meant to let AQUA users regain spending functionality while peg-outs stay limited, the company said.

The company plans to raise Indra's swap limits once peg-outs are fully re-enabled on the Liquid Network.

Lightning payments were recently added back in AQUA as of September 16th. However, receiving Lightning is not yet live since AQUA wants to avoid users receiving L-BTC that they cannot peg out or swap while peg-outs stay paused, the company said.
