Blockstream Jade hardware wallets have been added to the Unchained collaborative custody platform, allowing users to use the devices as signing keys within multisignature vaults.

The integration allows the Jade wallet to operate within Unchained’s 2-of-3 multisignature custody structure.

Under this model, the client holds two keys while Unchained maintains a third recovery key. Transactions require signatures from any two of the three keys in order to move funds.

Blockstream announced on X that its Jade hardware wallet can now be used as a signing key within Unchained’s collaborative custody vaults.

Unchained stated its collaborative custody model is designed to combine self-custody with a recovery mechanism.

If a user loses one of their keys, Unchained can provide the second signature needed to recover funds.

For routine transactions, users can sign with one key while requesting Unchained to co-sign, allowing the second personal key to remain stored separately.

With the new integration, Jade can be used as one or both of the user-controlled keys within an Unchained vault.

The companies also noted that the setup provides a pathway for users currently operating single-signature wallets to transition to a multisignature custody arrangement.

In the announcement, the companies highlighted several aspects of the integration, including Jade’s open-source hardware and firmware, its Bitcoin-only design, and the ability for users to retain two of the three multisignature keys.

Both companies noted that the integration highlights Jade’s open-source hardware and firmware, its Bitcoin-only design, and the ability for users to transition from single-signature wallets to a 2-of-3 collaborative multisignature custody model.

Blockstream stated that the integration aligns with its broader focus on promoting Bitcoin self-custody and supporting platforms that prioritize secure custody solutions.
