The company stated that the latest purchases were made as part of its Bitcoin treasury operations and included activity from strategic acquisitions through the sale of Bitcoin options, which it refers to as target buying.
Metaplanet purchased the 2,823 Bitcoin for ¥35.886 billion, at an average price of ¥12,712,055 per Bitcoin.
Following the acquisition, the company’s total Bitcoin cost basis reached ¥659.256 billion, with an average purchase price of ¥15,331,542 per Bitcoin.
The new quarterly purchase lowered Metaplanet’s overall average acquisition price from ¥15,515,598 per Bitcoin at the end of March.
The company also reported ¥1.747 billion in revenue from its Bitcoin income business during the quarter.
Metaplanet noted that, on a supplemental basis, subtracting that revenue from the gross acquisition amount would result in an effective acquisition cost of ¥34.138 billion, or about ¥12,093,091 per Bitcoin, for the quarter’s purchases.
Metaplanet reported a Bitcoin yield of 6.6% for the second quarter. The company defines Bitcoin yield as a key performance indicator measuring changes in the ratio between total Bitcoin holdings and fully diluted shares outstanding over a given period.
As of June 30th, Metaplanet valued its 43,000 Bitcoin holdings at approximately ¥409 billion.
The company also reported a capital structure that included ¥8 billion of zero-interest yen-denominated ordinary bonds, approximately ¥67.2 billion of foreign currency debt, and Series B preferred shares with a total notional amount of about ¥23.6 billion and a 4.9% dividend rate.
