Boltz has launched the Boltz BTCPay Plugin in open beta, designed for merchants using BTCPay Server to accept Bitcoin payments via the Lightning Network.
The plugin facilitates automatic conversion of received payments into Liquid Bitcoin (LBTC) on the Liquid Network while ensuring non-custodial control over funds.
The "Nodeless" mode of the plugin uses Liquid Swaps to convert Lightning payments into LBTC and offers the option to swap back to the Bitcoin mainchain if desired.
An integrated wallet system allows for creating or importing both Liquid and mainchain wallets.
Kilian, CEO of Boltz, highlighted that the plugin enables merchants to manage Bitcoin payments without running a node.
Users can also set thresholds to automatically swap funds back to the mainchain once a specific balance is reached.
Boltz CTO Michael pointed out the complexity of operating a Lightning node, particularly in managing channels and liquidity, and explained that the plugin simplifies these tasks for merchants. Kilian also noted that running a node may be impractical for many.
Previous non-custodial solutions for Lightning payments often came with counterparty risk or geographic limitations.
During the beta phase, Boltz cautioned users to be aware of potential bugs. However, Kilian reported that the plugin has already handled thousands of transactions, with Strainly, an online vendor, fully adopting it.
Alan, CEO of Strainly, shared positive feedback after a month of testing, praising the plugin's ability to process Lightning payments and automatically manage balance consolidation between Liquid and mainchain wallets.
